Biofilms present significant challenges in beverage water systems. Issues with biofilms have evolved due to changes in beverage plants. Biofilms are best prevented through hygienic design of water systems that can be properly cleaned and sanitized. Biofilms can be mitigated through operational best practices including inspections, maintenance, and regular cleaning and sanitizing. Elimination of a biofilm is not simple and may require significant time and effort.
